    Day 2

Giant pandas and Chengdu city highlights

Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, about 10 kilometres north of the city centre. Morning is best because pandas are usually most active and feeding then. After lunch at a local Chinese restaurant, continue to People's Park for fresh air and teahouse life. This is where Chengdu's everyday scenes come into view: parents posting matchmaking notices, traditional ear cleaning in a teahouse chair, and locals playing mahjong all around.
